Picture Discuss

Project Overview

Picture Discuss was an improv comedy show, that I co-created and produced. It was hosted, and co-created by broadcast veteran and all-round legend, Merrick Watts.

In each episode, Merrick was joined by two new comedians, and they would all be shown a picture I had found on the internet. The game was very simple, figure out the origin of this bizarre picture.

Australia's biggest comedians appeared on the show, Becky Lucas, Colin Lane, Tom Cashman, Geraldine Hickey, Rhys Nicholson, Mel Buttle and many more.

The series has run for three seasons, was nominated for an ACRA, and had a live show at the annual, 'Comedy In The Vines' festival.

An entire season was recorded in bulk over a few intense days, and released weekly. And was supported by a highly successful social media strategy created and led by me.

Production lead and planning

For each season I had to book comedians for 24 episodes, and due to the production schedule, they had to all be booked within a 3-day window.

Series Impact

Series Ideation & Development

Created the format and structure for the series. This involved several pilots, and format adjustments to make this highly visual concept work as a podcast.

“Jay is a fantastic producer, who provided quality guidance and ideas to help me make Picture Discuss. Never one to present problems without solutions, he strives to ensure myself and my guests can perform at our best.

It’s been a real pleasure to watch Jay grow as a producer as we’ve continued to work together over the past 3 years. It’s rare to find someone who genuinely cares for their work the way he does. Diligence to detail is not sacrificed by having a good time producing the content. Rare indeed.

Above all else, Jay is genuinely a lovely person and great to work with.“

Series Testimonials

"God, I threw some tough jobs at Jay over the years, but he always delivered standout content. Another superb editor and format guru. Jay is also extremely fluent in video and social media strategy. He's also kind, patient, and fun.

My only complaint with Jay was that he worked too hard, cared too much and it made me look bad."
